Every hide that arrives at the NABOLY factory is different. Natural leather carries the marks of the animal it came from — scars, growth lines, variations in grain — and no two hides stretch the same way. That is why our cutters still lay out every pattern by hand before anything goes to the clicking press.
A skilled cutter can see where a hide will flex and where it will hold its shape. Vamps and toe pieces, which take the most bending, are cut from the tighter back and shoulder. Quarters and straps come from areas with a little more give. Waste goes down and the shoe lasts longer.
We use modern machinery for lasting, stitching and sole attachment because it gives a more consistent result than hands alone. Cutting is the one stage where judgement still beats speed. The extra minutes per hide are the difference between a strap that softens with wear and one that cracks.
